Use cribs safely to reduce the risk of SIDS or suffocation

By: Meg Dilts

New parents usually purchase their first crib way ahead of the arrival of their new baby. But as first time parents, you need to understand that buying the best crib and follow the crib instruction is not enough for the safety of your new baby. For new born babies to 12 months of age, there are special precautions you need to follow to reduce any risk. Risks such as suffocation and sudden infant death syndrome.

The crib needs to have a firm mattress despite that most parents want the softest for their precious little one. It needs to be firm. And the fitted sheet has to be custom made just for the crib. You can use a duvet cover for the mattress to prevent the fitted sheet from becoming loose. Once you're ready to leave the baby's room, do NOT leave pillows, toys, or anything in the crib. Not even comforters or blankets. The infant will use a sleeper. Again, no blankets inside the crib when you leave the room. This means even during the day when you step out for a little.

Follow these tips and both you and your baby will have a restful sleep. Less worry to you.
